VEG SEMIYA UPMA:
An awesome recipe for breakfast, snack or dinner.
It can be served with Chutney or thokku.
Ingredients :
Semiya - 1 and 1/2 cup
Beans - 5 nos chopped
Carrot - 1 chopped
Potato - 1 chopped
Onion - 1 chopped
Tomato - 1/2 chopped
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Salt - as per taste
Water - 2 cups (1 and 1/2 for semiya to cook and 1/2 for veggies to cook)
Seasoning:
Coconut oil - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Split urad dal -1/2 tsp
Chana dal - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida - pinch
Steps :
1. Dry roast semiya until the colour changes to light brown and keep it aside on a plate.
2. In a pan add oil , mustard, urad dal and chana dal and allow mustard to splutter.
3. Once it splutters add asafoetida to it.
4. Add in the chopped veggies and add turmeric and required salt for veggies and saute it well.
5. Cook the veggies by adding about 1/2 cup of water.
6. Once veggies are semi cooked add 1 and 1/2 cup of water and required salt for semiya and bring it to boil.
7. On boiling add the semiya and give it a stir and close the pan lid to cook until the water is absorbed.
8. At the last stage semiya upma turns non sticky and well cooked.
